By Sean O'Connell Hollywoodnews.com: On the eve of Alexander Payne's "The Descendants" closing this year's New York Film Festival, Fox Searchlight unveils the second teaser for the complicated, sentimental drama. We have it below.
The clip, though short, makes great use of George Clooney's narration from the film's opening, explaining that residents of Hawaii aren't immune from life's hardships just because they live in an island paradise.
That fact becomes painfully clear as Payne's drama plays out, with Clooney keeping his daughters (Amara Miller, Shailene Woodley) in check as they deal with a family tragedy. The significance of the tragedy, and the reaction of Payne's characters, are best discovered by an audience as they maneuver "The Descendants," and this trailer does a fine job of setting up the landscape of Payne's story without tipping its hat toward any of the film's major reveals.
So I won't give any of them away, either.
